2016 Holmes County Education Foundation Scholarship 

Recipients Selected

The Holmes County Education Foundation (HCEF) has selected the following first-year (not renewing) applicants to receive various scholarships.  The scholarship, a brief description, and the recipients are listed below.

 

The [Anonymous Donors] Achievement Scholarship is awarded to Holmes County students with high potential for success, pursuing the fields of teaching, engineering, science, nursing, or selected pre-med programs. The recipients of this award are Madison Cox, Ethan Meyer, Hannah Pratt, and Andrew Schrock.

 

The AAUW Holmes County Branch Scholarship is awarded to a traditional or non-traditional female Holmes County resident.  Recipient must be a first generation college student pursuing a two or four year degree.  This year’s recipient is Morgan Hawkins.*

 

The Holmes County Bar Association Scholarship is awarded to graduating seniors of Hiland and/or West Holmes High Schools pursuing a law-related field of study. This year’s recipient is Riley Pritt.*

 

The Jennifer Bird Duff Memorial Scholarship is awarded to West Holmes graduating seniors who have participated in athletics and/or other extracurricular and service activities. The recipient this year is Mary Macaulay.

 

The Harold (H.T.) and Louise Blum Scholarship assists Holmes County residents exhibiting aptitude and creativity, an entrepreneurial spirit, and leadership skills for becoming an effective contributor in his or her field of study and to society. The recipient for this award is Vanessa Troyer.

 

The Joe & Frieda Bock Scholarship is awarded to a West Holmes High School graduate pursuing a career in nursing. The recipient this year is Karisa Shriver.

 

The Ami Breitenbucher Memorial Nursing Scholarship is awarded to a West Holmes graduating senior or past graduate pursuing a career in nursing.  This year’s recipient is Trevor Kiner.

 

The Francis Brundige Scholarship is awarded to a Holmes County student attending The Ohio State University or one of its branches. This year’s recipient is Madison Baker.*

 

The Cary Scholarship is awarded to Holmes County residents. The recipient this year is Adam Grate.

 

The Commercial & Savings Bank Scholarship is awarded to a West Holmes High School graduate. This year’s recipient is Lia Drummond.*

 

The Ralph B. & Alta M. Dickersheet Scholarship is awarded to students majoring in the fields of agriculture, home economics or business, and must be a Holmes County high school graduate.  This year’s recipient is Elizabeth Boyles.

 

The Donald C. Egger Memorial Scholarship is awarded to students pursuing higher education in the field of teaching. The recipient of this award is Brittney Masters.

 

The Aimee Frenette-Rickly Memorial Scholarship is awarded to a female West Holmes graduating senior who has participated in athletics (preferably softball or volleyball). This year's recipient is Raichelle Erman. 

 

The Robert and Elsie Galley Educational Scholarship is awarded to Holmes County students majoring in agriculture, horticulture, or another ag-related program. If no eligible candidates are found within these fields, selection will be based on the HCEF criteria. This year’s recipients are: Kyle Ackert, Courtney Baker, Madison Baker, Chandler Dial, Carie Fair, Matthew Gardner, Adam Grate, Katlyn Hamner, Morgan Hawkins, William Hughes, Trevor Kiner, Elise Knebusch, Madeleine Knebusch, Benjamin Miller, Paige Miller, Sarah Miller, Hayleigh Pearce, Emily Safarik, Mark Schlabach, Hannah Schlegel, Emily Stair, Tyler Stoltzfus, Nicholas Straits, Kayla Tennefoss, Brittany Tylka, and Samuel Young.

 

The Melanie A. Gehm Memorial Scholarship is awarded to a West Holmes graduating senior. This year’s recipient is Hannah Schlegel.

 

The Julius & Helen Grassbaugh Scholarship is awarded to a West Holmes High School graduate demonstrating financial need, pursuing studies related to agriculture, who has a good record of behavior and ranks in the top half of their class.  This year’s recipient is William Hughes.

 

The Graven Family Nursing Scholarship is awarded to a Holmes County student pursuing a career in nursing. This year’s recipient is Karisa Shriver.

 

The Paul & Esther Haudenschild Memorial Music Scholarship is awarded to a graduating senior of West Holmes, Hiland, Loudonville, or Waynedale High School who will be pursuing a degree in music or has been involved in high school music programs. This year’s recipient is Benjamin Weaver.

 

The Carol Hawkins Maurer Nursing Scholarship is awarded to Holmes County residents with demonstrated financial need and academic merit who are pursuing a career in the nursing field.  Preference is given to those students attending Ashland University, her alma mater.  This year’s recipient is Emily Stair.

 

The Heinbuch Memorial Scholarship is awarded to Holmes County residents who are graduating West Holmes High School seniors and have financial need as they pursue their higher education goals.  Louis Crider is the recipient this year.

 

The Fred and Ollie Hoffman Scholarship is awarded to Holmes County residents who will be pursuing a degree in pharmacy or education, or attending Ohio Northern University. This year’s recipient is Brittney Masters.

 

 

The Holmes County Farm Bureau Larry Lee Lang Memorial Scholarship is awarded to Holmes County residents with scholastic ability and character who are pursuing the field of agriculture.  This year’s recipient is William Hughes.*

 

The Holmes Family Medicine Scholarship is awarded to one boy and one girl who were either homeschooled or attended West Holmes High School that were in the top 10% of their class, and planned to receive a Bachelor’s degree in a health-related field. This year’s recipients are Emily Safarik and Ethan Meyer.*

 

The Hummel Insurance Agency Scholarship is awarded to a West Holmes graduating senior with a GPA of 3.0 or higher, pursuing a bachelor’s degree and majoring in insurance, business administration, accounting, finance, marketing, advertising, or related field. This year’s recipient is Makayla Palm.*

 

The Jennifer M. Jones Memorial Scholarship is awarded to a female West Holmes graduating senior who has participated in athletics. This year’s recipient is Hailey Martin.

The Key Foundation Endowed Scholarship assists Holmes County residents demonstrating financial need as they pursue the fields of business or finance.  This year’s recipient is Kobe Miller.

 

The Killbuck Area Scholarship is awarded to students who have attended Killbuck or Clark elementary schools. This year’s recipient is Kinsey Martin.

 

The Thomas Layman Memorial Scholarship is awarded to Holmes County students demonstrating financial need and pursuing higher education in liberal arts including, but not limited to, literature, languages, philosophy, history, mathematics and science. This year's recipients are David AghaKhan, Brady Conn, Aubrey Crider, Cara Hartley, Jacob Kalman, Ian Leighty, Jordan Lint, and Lindsey Yoder.

 

The Millersburg Lion’s Club Scholarship is awarded to West Holmes High School graduating seniors demonstrating financial need. This year's recipients are Raichelle Erman, Trevor Kiner, Mary Macaulay, Hannah Schlegel, Emily Stair, and Nicholas Straits.*

 

The Helen Logsdon Scholarship is awarded to Holmes County students attending the Ohio State University or any of its branches, with a preference given to high school seniors with strong academics, involvement in student activities, and work experience. This year’s recipient is Courtney Baker.

The Bruce & Janet Mann Scholarship is awarded to Holmes County students with demonstrated financial need and who are the first child in their family to attend college.  Katlyn Hamner is the scholarship recipient this year.

The Master’s Service Scholarship is awarded to Holmes County residents attending a Christian college and/or pursuing the fields of ministry, music, music therapy, or pharmacy. The recipient of this award is Kobe Miller.

 

The Warren McCulloch Memorial Scholarship is awarded to Holmes County students demonstrating financial need and pursuing higher education in an agricultural or equine-related field. If no eligible candidates are found within these fields, selection will be based on the HCEF criteria. This year's recipient is Katlyn Hamner.

 

The McNutt Scholarship is awarded to a Holmes County student, and is based on financial need. This year’s recipient is Nathanael Truax.

 

The Millersburg Rotary Club Scholarship is awarded to a Holmes County graduate or resident that has obtained a high school diploma or GED certificate demonstrating financial need.  The recipient must have ranked in the top half of their graduating class and have a good record of behavior and community service involvement.  This year the award goes to Mikayla Ryan.

 

The Patricia M. Morganti Memorial Scholarship is awarded to West Holmes graduating seniors. This year’s recipient is Ian Shroyer.

 

The Keith Nowels Memorial Scholarship is awarded to a Holmes County graduating senior majoring in agriculture, an agricultural related program, or who has completed four years of high school Agricultural Education (FFA). This year’s recipient is Paige Miller.

 

The William H. Patten III Memorial Scholarship is awarded to West Holmes graduating seniors pursuing business and/or education-related fields. This year’s recipient is Rebekah Cagle.

 

The Dr. Owen and Mildred Patterson Scholarship is awarded to Holmes County residents pursuing advanced education and training. This year’s recipient is Benjamin Miller.

 

The Raymond J. and Louella F. Patterson Scholarship for Teachers is awarded given to current Holmes County educators who have at least two years of classroom teaching experience.  Holmes County grad and undergraduate students majoring in education may also be considered.  This year’s recipient is Brady Conn.

 

The Purdy Memorial Scholarship is awarded to West Holmes graduates. Recipients are as follows: Benjamin Barbey, Louis Crider, Lia Drummond, Matthew Gardner, Tyra Hunter, Jordan Lint, Brittney Masters, Coven Mullet, Makayla Palm, Ian Shroyer, Meredith Snow, Vanessa Stitzlein, and Cole Woods.*

 

The Robert and Della Ramseyer Scholarship is awarded to local students pursuing majors in the fields of medicine and agricultural sciences.  Zachary Miller is this year’s recipient. 

 

The Rodhe Family Scholarship is awarded to Holmes County students with demonstrated financial need pursuing a degree in business or music. This year’s recipient is Rebekah Cagle.

 

The Paul Sauerbrey Memorial Scholarship is awarded to graduating high school seniors. This year’s recipients are: Alexis Campbell, Rylee Compton, Brady Hood, Kinsey Martin, Cassidy Mohler, Karisa Shriver, Ian Shroyer, Nicholas Straits, and Abby Wagner.

 

The Scenic Pointe Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center Scholarship is awarded to Holmes County students pursuing the medical field with a 3.0 GPA or higher on a 4.0 scale.  This year’s recipients are Hannah Schlegel and Brant Miller.*

 

The John W. and Geneva Schuler Scholarship is awarded to West Holmes graduating seniors, and is based on financial need and academic potential. This year’s recipient is Serena Miller.

 

The Judson and Beverly Schuler Scholarship is awarded to Holmes County residents pursuing higher education, with preference given to those pursuing the fields of law, licensed practical nursing, or health-related fields. The recipients of this award are Eric Beachy, Kyrsten Costa, Zachary Miller, and Miranda Somers.

 

The Blair Slutz Memorial Education Scholarship is awarded to graduating seniors from Hiland, Waynedale, or West Holmes High School with Holmes County residency pursuing the field of education. This year’s recipient is Sarah Miller.

 

The Darb Snyder Educational Scholarship is awarded to West Holmes graduating seniors. This year’s recipient is Rebekah Cagle.

 

The Roy and Dorothy Stallman Scholarship is awarded to students pursuing the field of education. The recipient of this award is Hayleigh Pearce.

 

The Kimberly A. Stalnaker Memorial Scholarship is sponsored by Weaver Leather Goods Inc. This year’s recipient is Alexis Campbell.*

 

The Marcia L. Stutzman Memorial Scholarship is awarded to a West Holmes high school graduating senior pursuing accounting, finance or business administration.  This year’s recipient is Meredith Snow.

 

The Maxine Waltman Memorial Scholarship is awarded to graduate students. This year’s recipient is Taylor Smith.

 

The Don & Oneta "Grandma" Way Memorial Scholarship is awarded to Holmes County students demonstrating financial need and majoring in either education or business. This year's recipient is Nikyta Engstrom.

 

The Weber Girls Scholarship is awarded to graduating seniors of West Holmes High School or Waynedale High School, a child or grandchild of a veteran, and pursuing post-secondary educational goals.  This year’s recipient is Mary Macaulay.

 

The Paul & Elizabeth Young Memorial Music Scholarship is awarded to West Holmes High School graduates with demonstrated financial need pursuing studies in music or having four years of high school music.  This year’s recipient is Rylee Compton.

 

The Helen R. Youngs Music Scholarship is awarded to graduating seniors majoring in or involved in high school music. This year’s recipient is Nathaniel Hartley.

 

The total amount in new Holmes County Education Foundation scholarship awards given this year is $121,100** for the 2016-2017 academic year. Applicants still had an unmet need of $222,856 despite receiving this assistance from the Foundation. Additionally, $340,147 was available to provide renewing scholarship recipients. Award amounts vary according to need and are evaluated on a case-by-case basis. Applications for the 2017-2018 academic year will be available on the Foundation’s website (www.hcef.net) beginning in January, 2017.
